Day 2

Today we were able to head to the orphanage around 9:00. We were completely on our own to find our way but managed fine. As soon as the caregiver brought Ember to us she started crying. They led us outside and handed her to me. It didn't take too long before she quit crying. We just walked around and watched the other children for most of this visit. Around 10:00 they came to get her for nap time.
We then headed to the grocery store and picked up some food and water. We came back to the apartment and took naps. We seem to be tired all the time!
Around 4:30 we decided to head back to the orphanage so we took grabbed a cab and when we got there we had to wait for them to finish feeding her dinner and then they brought her to us outside. This time she only cried for a short bit. She enjoys sitting on the ground between my legs and rolling a ball to Thad. This visit was much more enjoyable and we saw some serious personality from her. She will imitate our faces - fish lips, sticking tongue out, etc. We also were able to get her to laugh a bunch. She is afraid of Thad so he hasn't had the chance to hold her yet. She will let him touch her but the closer he gets the more serious she is.
She is called "Leeza" here so for now that is what we call her. She is confused enough so for now she is going by Leeza. Her hands and fingers are quite stiff and have little movement. Her wrists too. She has not attempted at all to use her arms. She will roll her shoulders to pull her arm away. We have seen her move her fingers just tiny amounts so we know there is some ability there. It doesn't appear to us that she has ever used her arms. Her legs both can move. The left leg (the one missing her foot) looks like it is continually out of the hip socket. Again she doesn't make much of an effort to move her legs. I am not sure how much of this is because she hasn't been pushed to try or because she just can't. It will be good to get her home and be seen by specialists. We ended the visit with many smiles and no tears. All in all a good day.
It is smokey here - everyone smokes. The city isn't too bad. There isn't a lot to do or sightsee but it has a few nice parks nearby and the streets are fun to walk.

  3. Our family has a special place in our hearts for Tasha. She was one of the first children we prayed for. It is wonderful to see her with her Mommy. Praying for everything to go smoothly while you are there.

  4. Sweet sweet baby! She is so gorgeous, I can't wait to see her smile. :) I also can't wait for you to get her HOME and see what the doctors here can do for her arms and legs. I hope she's not in pain from her hip being out of joint. :( What's that building you have a picture of? It's really beautiful. I better go I have kids hollering for attention!

  7. Bus 119 is the last stop and will take you to that big building with the short iron fencing with heart shapes. You can just walk across the street to the orphanage; much cheaper. I liked trying the bus first coming from the orphanage because it was the first stop and you could get a seat. She is soooo cute. I can't wait to see you guys bring her home!
